Like its bigger neighbor of Koh Chang, the beaches of Koh Mak are safe, have that unique soft white sand, and line the coastline of as good proportion of the island. Some areas are quite rocky and less suitable for swimming but are great places for snorkeling. Koh Mak is just 20 kilometres from Koh Chang in the Eastern part of Thailand. This is a fairly reently developed area of the country but has been a favourite destination for Thai families for many years. The nearest major mainland town in Trat (sometimes Trad), which has a small airport operated by Bangkok Airways....
On Koh Mak
Koh Mak is an island with a long history in the rubber and coconut trade, originally stemming from Chinese immigrants. Today it still has a strong industry in these two areas, but has developed a reputation for being a good family resort island, without the excesses of mass tourism. The Weather on Koh Mak
The island of Koh Mook (sometimes also called Muk) lies off the west coast of southern Thailand, and like all the islands in this magnificent Phang Nga Marine National Park is subject to big seasonal climate changes. During the dry months of November through to May, the area is calm, warm to hot, and dry. The boats from the mainland near Trang and from Lanta bring visitors to see the Emerald Cave and the fantastic beaches.....
When to go to Koh Mak
The Gulf of Thailand does not suffer so much from the rough seas found in the Andaman resorts of Lanta, Phi Phi and the smaller islands of that region. Ferries continue to run throughout the year, whilst on the western side of Thailand, boat services are often suspended or cancelled completely for the period from May to November....
